My Top 10 of 2020

Here is the *rough list of my top 10 reads of 2020

10

The Princess Diaries (the series)

I read TPD in Fall 2020 and had a really fun time reading about Mia Thermopolis and her shenanigans. If I rated them individually the first would be my favorite and it would probably be #1 on this list. The audiobook (narrated by Anne Hathaway) is my comfort book and I love listening to it when I am overly anxious.

9

House of Dragons

Dragons. TRAINED DRAGONS. Trials to be the ruler of the land, complex characters and relationships, and HUGE plot twists. What more is there to love?

8

A Sky Beyond The Storm

Now don't get me wrong, this wasn't the perfect conclusion to the An Ember In The Ashes series, which I love, but it was a great book. I love the characters, their actions and this book was when I had to say goodbye to them.

7

Sorcery of Thorns

I had a great time reading Sorcery of Thorns. The writing, the world, the characters, the enemies to lovers romance were all entertaining and the hype didn't deceive me!

6

The Hate U Give

Such a necessary book. Angie Thomas is extremely talented in being able to convey the emotions of a Black teen in America. This was extremely eye-opening and I completely understand why it is so renowned.

5

Cemetery Boys

Whew. Cemetery Boys is such a great standalone fantasy. The representation in this book, from the Latinx culture to the trans gay main character, I loved seeing this entirely different world from my own. This was so original and I am SO glad that this got the recognition it deserves.

4

Prince Charming

If you saw me reading this all you would hear would be me squealing, laughing, giggling, snorting, and overall sounding like a donkey. This doesn't handle large issues but it issued me a good time and I rate off of my personal enjoyment of my reading experience.

3

Love From A to Z

My last read of 2020 and it found its way to the top 3! I loved the Muslim rep and the conversation about the treatment of Muslims and other societal issues like it. I thought the culture in this book was really interesting to learn about and the romance was extremely cute.

2

You Should See Me In A Crown

I cried reading this. Do I have to say more? I loved the characters, themes, and the plotline of YSSMIAC. A story about being a HAPPY BLACK TEEN. Very necessary and very wholesome!

1

Red White & Royal Blue

I thought it would be hard to pick a #1 (or a top 10 for that matter) but after thinking for 10 seconds I decided on RW&RB. I loved this. I read it twice in a row and I can't get enough of it. The romance is adorable (enemies to lovers), the characters are so cute, the plot is interesting, the setting is cool and I LOVE ROYAL BOOKS. I love them. So much.

Honorary Mentions:

A Song of Wraiths and Ruin

Forest of Souls

Our Castle By The Sea

*I am terrible at picking favorites but these were some of my favorites in 2020.
