Recently Aiden Thomas' second book, or sophomore novel, was released and I thought that would be a great time to have an appreciation post. His first book, Cemetery Boys, was the first book by a transgender author, and with a transgender MC, to go on the New York Best Sellers List. This should've happened much earlier but clear discrimination in the publishing industry has caused many lost opportunities for minority authors (but I am not going into this in this post). Despite his remarkable achievements and many rewards received for Cemetery Boys, I personally think that the real accomplishment here was the great writer that we were all able to discover. I would've never discovered him without the hype, and I hope that other people continue to find him and his enchanting writing.
His new release (March 23, 2021), Lost in the Never Woods, was my most recent read and I think that everyone should check it out. It is a Peter Pan retelling about Wendy trying to figure out what is happening to recent missing kids in her town and her brothers who went missing five years prior. They were actually taken with Wendy, but unlike her, they never came back. At the beginning of these disappearances she finds Peter Pan, who she once thought was fictional, in the middle of the road. From there the mystery only gets more interesting. My review of Lost in the Never Woods talks about what I love so much about Aiden Thomas's stories.
Cemetery Boys was an extremely engaging and interesting story that gave me some insight on the life of a transgender, gay, and latinx teenager. My review is old but it details what I thought was so special about Aiden Thomas' debut.
So there are my thoughts about Aiden Thomas' two books! Just a heads up that I am going to develop a posting schedule but I may take a short break from posting (even though I have a bunch of drafts) so that I can refocus and hopefully write more in depth posts.
